Freediving Instructor Trainer

Intent

The SSI Freediving Instructor Trainer Seminar provides individuals with instructor-level knowledge and skills, and evaluates their ability to conduct Freediving Instructor programs in a safe and enjoyable manner.

Note | Instructor Trainer Seminars are conducted by SSI Service Centers, and candidates are selected through an application process.

Minimum Instructor Rating

An active status Freediving International Training Director may conduct the Freediving Instructor Trainer Seminar when appointed by the responsible SSI Service Center.

Candidate Prerequisites

Minimum age | 21 years old.

Have no QMS Cases that result in a compliance action in the previous twelve (12) months.

Submit a written application to the responsible Freediving International Training Director for approval.

Have the following SSI certifications (no equivalency permitted):

Performance Freediving Instructor

Have issued at least:

80 total freediving certifications

40 Pool Freediver or Freediver certifications.

15 Advanced Freediver certifications.

5 Performance Freediver certifications.

10 Training Techniques certifications.

Duration

Recommended hours for completion | 70-80.

Depth Limitations

Maximum depth limit | 85 feet.

Ratios

The candidate-to-instructor ratio is 6:1.

The ratio may increase to 12:2 with a Freediving International Training Director (requires written approval from the SSI International).

Note | A Freediving Instructor Trainer may assist with the Instructor Trainer Seminar as part of their own training without affecting ratios.

Minimum Supervision

An active status Freediving International Training Director must directly supervise all academic, confined/pool and open water sessions.

Requirements For Completion

Complete all academic sessions as outlined in the instructor manual for the Freediving Instructor Trainer Seminar.

Complete and pass all requirements and evaluations listed in the instructor manual for the Freediving Instructor Trainer Seminar.

Complete the program’s final exam.

Complete the Candidate Water Fitness Evaluation as outlined in the SSI General Training Standards.

Complete the applicable performance requirements as outlined in the SSI Training Standards.

Display leadership behaviors and skill levels.

Active Status Requirements

Exclusively use the SSI Total Teaching System for all levels and issue only SSI certifications. Only those programs that SSI does not provide materials for can be conducted through another agency.

Exemplify the SSI philosophy and display competence in applying the SSI Business System.

Attend all applicable mandatory updates scheduled by SSI International.

Conduct at least one (1) complete freediving instructor-level training course every 24 months. Or, if SSI International offers a mandatory update, complete at least one (1) within 24 months.

If this time period is exceeded, they may extend their active status Freediving Instructor Trainer certification by attending a remedial training session coordinated by SSI International and an International Training Director. They will remain in retired status until the remedial training session is completed.

SSI Professionals are responsible for the quality of their training. If a significant number of their candidates fail due to inadequate training quality (for example, bad organization or planning), a Freediving Instructor Trainer may be required to complete another Freediving Instructor Trainer Seminar or revert to the highest professional certification that they meet the minimum active status requirements for.

Active Status Qualifications

In addition to the programs taught by active status Freediving Assistant Instructor Trainers, active status Freediving Instructor Trainers may teach, supervise and issue certifications for the following programs:

Advanced Freediving Instructor

Performance Freediving Instructor

Freediving Assistant Instructor Trainer

Note | Only Freediving Instructor Trainers who have been authorized by SSI International may conduct the Freediving Assistant Instructor Trainer Seminar.
