Minimum Instructor Rating

An active status Snorkel Instructor may conduct the Snorkel Diver program.

Student Prerequisites

  • There is no minimum age for the Snorkel Diver program.

Depth Limitations

  • If breath-hold diving is taught during the Snorkel Diver program, do not conduct training deeper than five (5) meters.

Recommendation | If students are interested in breath-hold diving, they should be encouraged to take the SSI Basic Freediver program.

In-Water Ratios

  • The student-to-instructor ratio should be set by the individual instructor, based on their ability to effectively supervise and respond to their students’ needs.
  • Decrease this ratio whenever conditions or logistics require.

Minimum Supervision

  • An active status Snorkel Diver Instructor must directly supervise all academic and in-water activities.

Requirements For Completion

  • Complete all in-water sessions as outlined in the instructor manual for Snorkel Diver in a pool, confined water, or open water environment.
