The SSI Try SCR program provides participants with an introductory rebreather experience with a Mares Horizon semi-closed rebreather, supervised by an SCR Diving Instructor in a pool/confined water environment.
It also may include an optional open water experience dive.
Note | This is a recognition program. The SSI Professional should focus on the participants’ safety and enjoyment, avoiding over-teaching.

Note | Each SSI Professional must comply with local regulations and insurance requirements applicable to introductory scuba programs.
Note | An active status SCR Extended Range Instructor may conduct the Try SCR using both the bottom and decompression cylinders.
Participants must remain under the direct supervision of the instructor so that physical contact can be made at all times during all in-water sessions.
- Complete at least one (1) pool/confined water session. Skill demonstration and evaluations are only required if the participant will participate in the optional open water experience dive.
- Complete one (1) optional open water experience dive as outlined in the instructor manual for Try SCR.
- Pool/confined water session may only be conducted after the participant successfully completes the academic sessions and the equipment configuration session.
- The optional open water experience dive may only be conducted after the participant successfully completes the pool/confined water session.
- Upon completion, process all participants in MySSI so they may receive their digital recognition card.
