The SSI Mermaid Instructor Trainer Seminar provides candidates with the knowledge and training necessary to organize and conduct SSI mermaid instructor-level training courses.
Note | Instructor Trainer Seminars are conducted by SSI Service Centers, and candidates are selected through an application process.
Provide written proof of having issued 70 Mermaid certifications and assisted with at least one (1) Mermaid Instructor Training Course with an active status Mermaid Instructor Trainer.
SSI Instructor Trainers or Freediving Assistant Instructor Trainers may automatically upgrade to Mermaid Instructor Trainer after meeting the following prerequisites.
- The ratio may increase to 12:2 with a Mermaid International Training Director (requires written approval from the SSI International).
Note | A Mermaid Instructor Trainer may assist with the Instructor Trainer Seminar as part of their own training without affecting ratios.
- An active status International Training Director must directly supervise all academic, pool/confined water and open water activities.
- Upon completion of the Instructor Trainer Seminar, send all required documentation to the responsible SSI Service Center.
- Conduct at least one (1) complete Mermaid Instructor Training Course every 24 months. If this 24-month period is exceeded, the Instructor Trainer may attend a remedial training session or maintain inactive status until remedial training is complete.
Active status Mermaid Instructor Trainers may teach, supervise and issue certifications for the following programs:
